Chambal Media is a digital media social enterprise founded in 2015 by a diverse team of rural and urban media practitioners, with over 20 years of experience producing local language content especially with and for rural audiences.
Our flagship Khabar Lahariya is the country's only women-run brand of ethical and independent rural news. Our new vertical Chambal Academy is dedicated to fostering the next generation of media leaders by supporting emerging talent and new voices from India’s small-towns and rural hamlets.
As we celebrate 20 years of our vision at the heart of everything we do, we would like to pay ode to a fearless voice we lost in 2020. This fellowship is supported by Google News Initiative is a tribute to the legacy of Rizwana Tabussum, a young small town journalist from a marginalized community, the first from her community to break barriers and step into journalism. Read more about Rizwana Tabussum here.
The fellowship will train 30 students who identify as women in North India/Hindi-speaking belt to become empowered community reporters.
